The blackbox is an interactive media sculpture which explores modern possibilities for the Burroughs/Gyson cut-up technique. Manipulated by the viewer, it generates an environment of jazz, spoken word cut-ups and written poetry.
"bluebox" (2007)
22" x 14" x 18"
mixed media
The bluebox continues the blackbox experiment, extending the cut-up technique to include video media. The viewer appears relegated to a passive role, but in actuality is in control of the medium as the piece reacts to its environment. The bluebox automatically incorporates its experiences into its video memory for use as cut-ups in later performances.
(according to Wikipedia's timeline, certain tracks on this album were at the leading edge of the glitch musical movement; go figure.)
